How to Care for Nylon
Nylon is a lightweight, strong synthetic fiber that resists abrasion and dries quickly. It is commonly used in activewear, hosiery, and outdoor gear. Nylon is generally easy to care for, but it is sensitive to heat and can be prone to static buildup.
🌡️ Wash Temperature
Machine wash nylon in cold or warm water up to 40°C (104°F) on a gentle cycle. Separate nylon items from rough fabrics to avoid snagging.
☀️ Drying
Air dry nylon garments when possible, as the fabric dries very quickly. If using a tumble dryer, select the lowest heat setting to prevent warping or melting.
🔥 Ironing
Nylon generally does not need ironing. If wrinkles are present, use the lowest iron setting and place a cloth between the iron and the fabric to prevent damage.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- ✗Using high dryer heat, which can melt or warp nylon fibers
- ✗Washing with rough fabrics like denim that cause pilling and snags
- ✗Using chlorine bleach, which degrades nylon over time
- ✗Ignoring odor buildup by not using an enzyme-based detergent for activewear
